About Our Publications

The publication activity of our research centre’s members is exceptionally diverse in terms of topics, methodological approaches, and interdisciplinary scope. Our research covers a wide range of areas, from art history, architecture, and visual culture to theoretical reflections on the relationship between science and art. We regularly publish our findings not only in scholarly and international journals but also in books.

Our researchers address topics such as the role of the Catholic Church in shaping modern architecture in interwar Central Europe (Matthew Rampley); transformations of historical memory in Hungarian visual culture after the Treaty of Trianon (Nóra Veszprémi); the influence of regional cultures and rural life on the development of modernism between the world wars in Austria, Czechoslovakia, and Hungary (Julia Secklehner); and how the First Czechoslovak Republic presented itself at world exhibitions and shaped its image through architecture, art, industry, and tourism (Marta Filipová).

Theoretical works are also part of our output, exploring intersections between the humanities and natural sciences – for example, how evolutionary biology and neuroscience influence our understanding of art and aesthetics (Matthew Rampley).

These examples illustrate the breadth and depth of our research, which combines traditional humanities approaches with contemporary scientific challenges. Our publications and projects reflect not only the cultural and historical contexts of Central Europe but also provide insights and perspectives on the broader role of art and visual culture in shaping society.
