Review of the Exhibition Terra Incognita (Museum Liaunig)

The Terra Incognita exhibition at the Liaunig Museum in Austria is the most extensive presentation of Czech and Slovak post-war art ever shown in the country. Curated by Miroslav Haľák, the exhibition opens a dialogue between artists from both sides of the former Iron Curtain and highlights the cultural ties shared across Central Europe. The project underscores that, despite historical divisions, art can transcend borders and foster a renewed understanding of a common identity.

Heads and Hands in Action: Showcasing 100 Years of Applied Arts Education from Brno... in Brno

How did applied arts education develop in the 20th century? What kinds of outputs did it produce? Since the widely publicised centenary celebrations of the Bauhaus school in 2019, numerous research projects, publications, and exhibitions across central Europe have begun to explore these questions by showcasing the diverse landscape of applied arts and design schools founded or reformed in the early 20th century.

Focusing on Alfons Mucha as an entry point, the research reconsiders Central European modernism not through narrow nationalist frames but as the product of cross-cultural networks that blurred the boundaries between nations and empire in the late Habsburg world.
